Partners bring the ground. Volunteers bring the hands. Donations cover the rest.
Every project needs three things.
Ground. A school courtyard, a strip of unused lawn, a public space, a shoreline. Our partners bring the site — that’s the part we can’t buy.
Hands. Students, volunteers, neighbors. The people who put the plants in and, more importantly, the people who understand the place afterward.
Materials. Cedar, soil, amendments, mulch, hardware — and the seed, media, and supplies that let us propagate Long Island natives from locally collected stock, months before a planting day.
Partners bring the first. Volunteers and students bring the second. Donations pay for the third — and the third is what determines how much habitat we can put in the ground in a season.
What your support does.
Sea Friends is a working organization, not a fundraising one. Gifts turn into plants, and plants go into the watershed.
Seed collection, stratification, and propagation of Long Island ecotype natives — grown from local stock, months before anything gets planted.
Cedar, soil, amendments, and hardware for gardens and waystations built to outlast the students who plant them.
Hands-on programs, species labels, and field sessions that turn a planting day into something a class carries with them.
Invasive species removal, follow-up treatment through licensed applicators, and native replanting — so the site doesn’t get re-invaded the season after.
Every gift raises the ceiling on what we can take on next — more sites, more schools, more of this watershed doing the work.
